At London Bridge gather by the main ticket office and meet Trevor Hughes by 09:05 approx for the 09:23 to Tonbridge
For those coming from the Bromley South - meet Andrew Fergar by around 09:00 or so for the 09:20 Orpington Train - we will change there onto the same train that the London Bridge contingent is already on and arrive together at 09:59
The ride today will include 8 miles or so of off road national cycle route ..which is well paved and suitable for any bike although it will probably be a bit muddy in places . Our overall mileage for the day for the basic ride will be 28 miles approx and will have 2257 feet of ascent and 2251 feet of descent ...so fairly hilly!
We start the ride at Tonbridge station and then venture a short distance to Tonbridge Castle , from here there is a very pleasant five mile traffic free route ( almost anyhow ) to Penshurst Place . From here we go a short distance on the B2188 ..then veer off South Wesward toward NC route 12 via White Post & Blackham then in a Southerly direction down to Balls Green , from here we go South and East past Leyswood and Harrisons's Rocks and thence to our probable pub stop in Eridge . Upon leaving Eridge we may have time to have a little look at Harrison's Rocks before turning North and passing over the Valley Steam Railway ..then on to Langton Green ...thence to the high village of Speldhurst ...before climbing our last hill ( of any size ) to Printstile ...from here we descend back toward the cycle path back into Tonbridge for trains home
I have revised plans for Saturday in the light of the fact that persistant rain over the last few days will have made any off road cycle route other than the Tonbridge - Penshurst one...fairly unpleasant to ride on ..and abandoned thoughts of a ride onward to Sevenoaks because of engineering works on that line .
