Report

Ladywell Fields - Beckenham Place Park, Forsters Memorial Park

Total time:  2 hours 50 mins (with stops).
Distance:  11.5 miles

Despite the cold, the weather was kind to us with sunshine for at least half the day.  We had a good turnout, with 16 riders ranging in age from 6 to 78 years!   We set off from Ladywell Fields at around 11.15, going over the spiral bridge across the railway, and along the Waterlink Way following the River Ravensbourne down to Lower Sydenham station.   Then uphill along Moremead Rd, leading to Sedgehill and onwards to Beckenham Place Park.  We stopped for tea (or tee!) at the golfclub cafe, with one of the younger riders picking up a golfball that was still in play (whoops!).   Then taking the Green Chain walk we also did a bit of mountain biking down the dirt path steps...including a tandem!   Then onwards and upwards to Forsters Memorial Park, where we stopped for pleasant lunch in the wooded BMX track.  Some of us (both kids and adults) had a go on this, although some of the unmaintained ramps were best avoided.  One slight graze to the leg sustained - he'll survive.   Then following Bellingham Rd, we carried on straight across Bellingham Green, up to Moremead Rd and downhill to rejoin the Waterlink Way. Retracing our steps, this serene path soon became a racetrack, with the Tandem taking the lead.  Back over the spiral bridge - well done again to the Tandem for making it over without stopping!   Some tired legs at the end, but a great day had by all!  Thanks to Maria and Vicky at Timebank for publicising, and also to Gordonbrock school for spreading the word.
